Brock Named VMI Athlete of the Week

LEXINGTON, Va. - Wrestling's Matt Brock has been named the VMI Athlete of the Week, for the time period ending Jan. 11.

Brock went 4-0 last week at the Pitt Duals, hosted by No. 10 Pittsburgh. The Richmond, Va. native put together his longest winning streak of the season (4), winning all four matches by decision. He recorded two shutouts, blanking Phillip Joseph of Eastern Michigan 4-0 and Ryan Callahan of Princeton 2-0. His biggest point differential of the week came against Columbia’s Adam Fondale, dropping the Lion 6-1. Brock is now 2-0 this season against Fondale.

Brock is now 19-8 on the season, besting his career mark of 18 wins, set last season. A grind-it-out kind of wrestler, 16 of Brock’s 19 wins have come by decision, including his last 10 victories. His other three wins have been by fall and he has not been pinned this season. He is currently riding a four-match winning streak, the longest of his career at VMI. Brock is second overall in the SoCon in total decisions, regardless of weight class and leads the conference’s 174 pounders in both wins (19) and decisions (16).
