VMI Women's Soccer Back in Action at George Mason

Still seeking its first win of 2010, VMI women's soccer will conclude a three-game road swing Wednesday by taking on George Mason in Fairfax, Va. Match time is set for 7 p.m.

VMI (0-4) comes off its best-played match of 2010, a 1-0 loss to Mount St. Mary's on Friday evening. The Keydets managed just three shots in the loss, but keeper Heidi Beemer had nine saves in her first start of 2010, allowing VMI to be competitive the entire 90 minutes. A 61st-minute goal did the Keydets in, however, continuing a trend that has seen the Keydets outscored 12-1 in the second half of their matches thus far.

VMI will try to change that trend against a George Mason (2-2-1) team that comes of a 2-1 win over American University on Monday. It was the 100th career win for Patriot coach Diane Drake.

Mason's games thus far, with the exception of a 4-0 loss to top-25 Georgetown, have been defensive slugfests, with no team scoring more than two goals in any of the team's other four games. Alex Bodenschatz has started all five games in goal and posted a GAA of 1.16. Wednesday's game is a rematch of VMI's 2009 season opener, won by Mason 3-0.

Following Wednesday's tilt, VMI will return home for the first time since August 27 and will play host to future Big South member Campbell on Saturday. Start time is set for 1 p.m.
