LEXINGTON, Va. - VMI Basketball has completed its recruiting class for the upcoming 2010-2011 season with the signing of guard/forward Sean Armstrong of Monacan High School in Richmond, Va.
Armstrong, 6-5, 210 lbs., averaged 13.2 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.7 assists for Monacan this past season and was named team MVP for the second time and All-Metro Richmond second team and well as first team All-Dominion District and honorable mention All-Central Region. Armstrong led Monacan to the Dominion District Tournament Championship and was a Richmond Times-Dispatch Player of the Week selection for February 19. Armstrong was also selected to play in the Digital Sports 804 All-Star Game and was named the events Slam Dunk contest winner.    
A three-year letterman who served as team captain for both his junior and senior years, Armstrong holds the school single game with 43 points set in a 2009 contest. He was also awarded the 2008 Coaches Team Award as a sophomore. He was coached at Monacan by Bill Roberson.
Armstrong also participated in the AAU Nationals with the Virginia Storm in 2009. 
 "We are very excited that Sean has decided to attend VMI," said head coach Duggar Baucom.  He is very versatile, extremely athletic, and is a proven winner.  We think he can come in and play several different positions for us."
Armstrong joins a signing class that includes forward/center D.J. Covington and guard Rodney Glasgow, Jr. 
Baucom added, "I would like to complement my staff on bringing in three cadet-athletes that are not only excellent basketball players, but also outstanding young men that will represent the Institute well on and off the court."
Covington, a 6-8, 230 senior at Norfolk Academy in Norfolk, Va. where he was coached by Eric Acra, averaged 18 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks in 2009-10 and 15 points, nine rebounds, and two blocks per game his junior season playing both the power forward and center positions. He was named First Team All-Tidewater Conference Independent Schools and was All-State honorable mention. Covington is a three-time All-TCIS selection and has been named All-Virginia Prep League three times.   
Covington was also a standout wide receiver for the Norfolk Academy football team and starred on the AAU BWSL Elite 17 A & B, 16 A, and 15 A basketball teams under Coach Boo Williams. 
Glasgow, a 5-10, 160, point guard from Good Counsel School in Olney, Md. and coached by Blair Mills, was a second team pick in the nationally renowned All-Washington Catholic Athletic Conference. This past season, Glasgow averaged 15.6 points, 6.0 assists, and two steals and was named second team All-Conference and All-Montgomery County. As a junior, Glasgow averaged 13 points, five assists, and three steals. He was also named team Player of the Year. Glasgow played AAU basketball with Mid-Atlantic Select and won the 2009 MVP Award for the Piggly Wiggly Tournament.
