Men's XC Earns Regional Ranking

LEXINGTON, Va. – For the second time in program history, the VMI men's cross country team has achieved a regional ranking, according to the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) rankings released Monday.

The Keydets are ranked 15th in this week's rankings of the Southeast region, the first such placing conducted this season. In addition, VMI is one of two Big South teams among the selected schools, as Liberty placed seventh in this week's tabulations.

“We're excited to be ranked in the top-15 of the Southeast region,” offered VMI head coach Paul Spangler. “It's great to be associated with such quality programs.”

VMI comes off a win at the Big South Preview Meet, contested Sept. 19 in Winston-Salem, N.C. VMI placed all five of its runners in the top-12, led by freshman Andrey Dmitriev's third-place finish. This is the second time VMI has earned a regional ranking, with the initial time coming in 2005 when they were also ranked 15th in the season's initial rankings.

VMI men's cross country will return to action Friday, as the Keydets travel to Lehigh, Pa. to take part in the Paul Short Invitational. The meet is set to begin at 11 a.m.
