LEXINGTON, Va.- For the third consecutive season, VMI linebacker Jacob Rochester has been
named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 3 First Team, as
announced Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America
(CoSIDA).
Rochester, a senior from Dallas,
Texas, currently carries a 3.93
GPA as an economics and business major. The senior was named to the Academic
All-District 3 squad each of the last two seasons as well. In addition, Rochester has been named
to the FCS Academic All-Star squad two years running, is a three-time member of
the Big South Presidential Honor Roll and has twice been named to the Conference's
All-Academic team.
On the field, the Lone Star
State native is a key
contributor, having started every 2008 contest for the Keydets. He currently
ranks third on the VMI squad in total tackles with 24, and his tackles-for-loss
number of 5.5 also places him third on the team. Rochester had a season-high seven tackles and
an interception against Coastal Carolina on Oct. 11, and posted three tackles-for-loss
and two sacks against Saint Francis in VMI's season opener.
Rochester and his VMI football teammates will return to action
Saturday, as they host Liberty
in a Big South Conference matchup at Foster Stadium. Game time is scheduled for
1:30 p.m.
