2010: Converted exclusively to the mound in his second collegiate season, after playing both shortstop and pitcher in the 2008 campaign…hurled a scoreless ninth inning against Longwood (4/6)…allowed just one hit over three scoreless frames against #18 Virginia Tech (4/27)…took the loss against Radford (5/1) allowing three runs over 2.1 innings.
2009: After suffering an injury in the preseason, took a medical redshirt year.
2008: Saw action both as a position player and on the mound as a freshman…hit .294 in 10 games, making four starts at shortstop…had a memorable collegiate debut, hitting a home run on his first swing of the bat on a 3-0 pitch against Binghamton (2/29)…overall, went 2 for 4 with three RBIs, a home run and a stolen base in that game against BU…made his first appearance on the mound in the opener at Auburn (3/6), allowing only one hit in one inning of work…made his first career pitching start at Old Dominion (4/2), earning the win by allowing one run on one hit through four innings…had earlier pitched four innings versus ODU (3/11), allowing only one run on four hits, striking out a pair while retiring six in a row and nine of 10 at one point…pitched 18 innings in seven appearances, including two starts.
High School/Personal: Excelled as a two-way player at Centreville, playing as a shortstop while also serving as the team’s closer…hit .386 with 12 doubles, three home runs while going a perfect 8 for 8 in stolen base attempts….struck out six times…on the mound, went 1-0 with three saves…opponents hit .194…posted an ERA of 3.30 and 15 strikeouts in 12 innings…hit .355 as a junior and led Centreville in batting average, RBIs and hits...son of Joel and Linda Barefoot…played for the VBC Hillcats during the summer and fall of 2006…majoring in psychology.
