LEXINGTON, Va. - The VMI rifle men's and women's teams head to Morgantown, West Virginia this weekend to participate in a sectional qualifying event Saturday, February 18 with host school West Virginia University.

The Keydet rifle programs under first year head coach Bill Bither enter the weekend off a productive competition at The Citadel two weeks ago in Charleston, South Carolina. In a tri-meet that also included Nevada-Reno, VMI's men's team outpointed The Citadel in smallbore competition 2198-2155 and the women topped the Bulldogs in both smallbore and air rifle. The Keydet women logged a 2139 in smallbore and 2154 in air rifle compared to The Citadel's 2023 in smallbore and 2251 in air rifle.

VMI's women's team in smallbore was led by junior Marie Mallet (553) followed by junior Kayla Johnson (544), and sophomore Nicole Larson (534). The VMI women air rifle scores were led by Mallet (554), sophomore Chih-Yuan Chen (542), and Johnson (543).

The VMI men smallbore scores were led by junior Kevin Jones (559) followed by junior Quinton Sweetser (548) and junior Joshua Lawrence (546).

Coach Bither feels his team has performed well as of late and is in good shape for qualifying for the MAC Championships February 25 in both men's smallbore and Air Rifle and women's air rifle.
