Wade Branner, a 1983 graduate of VMI, was promoted to Associate A.D. for Athletic Communications in 2008.
Branner assumed the duties of sports information director in July 1992, when Mike Strickler became public relations director at VMI. Branner is responsible for athletic media relations and communications, and is the primary contact for Keydet football and basketball. He was also instrumental in VMI's video streaming improvements over the 2014-16 years, which led to multiple sports being shown on ESPN3 for the first time and a substantial increase in SoCon Digital Network broadcasts as well.
A two-year letterman in baseball at VMI, Branner served a one-year internship before becoming the school’s first assistant sports information director in 1984, a title he held until his promotion to SID.
Branner is also known as “The Voice of the Keydets” and has handled play-by-play of VMI football and basketball since 1987. In 1991, he was named executive producer of the VMI Sports Network, and he supervises all aspects of the operation including sales, marketing, and distribution.
Branner has served as a vice president for the Southern Conference Sports Media Association and the Chair of the Big South Sports Information Directors. He is a member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID).
The Richmond, Virginia, native enjoys golf, flounder fishing, and celebrating Red Sox victories. He also has sung in various bands based in Rockbridge County over the past several years.
Branner is married to the former Elizabeth Matthews Outland. The couple resides in Lexington. The couple has a son, Harrison and a daughter, Margaret.
