After hosting the Big South meet Nov. 2, VMI cross country wraps up its 2013 season Friday, taking part in the NCAA SE Regional Championships, hosted by Virginia at Panaroma Farms in Charlottesville. Action gets underway at noon with the men's 10K. The women's 6K follows shortly thereafter.
The meet will be the last cross country meet for senior Cabell Willis, VMI's men's team captain. Willis was 91st at this meet last year in one of the best performances of his career, as he completed the course in Charlotte, N.C. in 32:16. Sean Helmke, who enters Friday fresh off his first career all-Big South honor, also ran in this event last season. Of note, the Keydets will hold out Avery Martin due to a nagging injury, with the hopes of fully readying him for the indoor track and field season, which begins in early December.
On the women's side, VMI will run its entire active roster, with the exception of redshirt senior Sam Conde. Between the seven women slated to run, VMI has just five races run at the regional championships, true evidence of the team's youth. Only Hannah Dickinson has run more than once at this meet, doing so in both 2011 and 2012.
