Allen Named Big South Co-Defensive Player of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - VMI linebacker Byron Allen has been named the Big South Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week, according to information released by the league Monday.

Allen, VMI's first weekly honoree this year, batted down four passes near the line of scrimmage in Saturday's win against Charleston Southern.  One of the break-ups was during a third quarter goal-line stand on a 3rd-and-Goal play at the VMI 1.  On the next play, Allen assisted on a tackle for no gain to keep the Buccaneers out of the end zone and give the ball back to the Keydets.  He broke up two passes on second down plays and one on third down, and added five tackles, including one for loss of four yards.

Allen shared the honor with Presbyterian's Justin Bethel.

VMI football will be back in action Saturday, playing host to Stony Brook at 1:30 p.m. at Foster Stadium.
